It has taken its time getting here but for all those Sky Customers that have waited for it to pop up on Android the wait is now over and you can now get hold of the Sky Go Android app .Although its good news there is bad news to come with the release. If you have a HTC Desire,Desire S,HD, Incredible S,Sensation or a Samsung Galaxy S or Galaxy S II you’ll be able to watch films and sports on the go in line with what package you have with Sky.

Sky will also let you watch a host of other channels including Sky 1, Sky Living and Sky Arts 1 but whilst it all sounds good there is no way of watching anything else so channels like BBC,ITV and channel 4 have been missed out. Whilst it is good to see Sky give Android users the attention they deserve this isn’t really TV that you’ll be wanting to watch on a daily basis and if you haven’t subscribed to Sky Sports or their film package the app is pretty much no use.

Not only have Sky decided to limit the handsets  that Sky Go can be viewed on and the channels available there is no support for Ice Cream Sandwich so the Nexus and any other device listed above with Android 4.0 on it won’t be compatible either. Both HTC and Samsung have announced that their products will start to see the long-awaited update over the coming weeks.

So if you have subscribed to Sky and certain packages and aren’t planning on updating to Android 4.0 any time soon you can download the Sky Go app from the Android Market here but if you have a tablet and a phone not listed above, forget about it and the same goes if you have a rooted device as told by reader Gavin and checking on the app description page it seems to be for copyright reasons.
