(Update)Samsung release address details of Nexus owners by mistake?

Posted In News - By Chris Spackman On Thursday, November 24th, 2011 With 0 Comments

With the volume issues facing the Samsung Galaxy Nexus this may just add to the launch woes. Reader Omar who was third in line at Phones 4U on launch day was of course entitled to the advertised vouchers where he was able to choose from lots of digital content to put on his brand new spanking phone.

It’s only fair that we put it in Omar’s words so here is the email he whizzed over to us and we’ve seen the email in question and it is real or a good fake:

was 3rd in line at the Galaxy Nexus Launch and got an email this morning saying:
Congratulations on being one of the world’s first owners of the Galaxy Nexus! You’ll receive your codes and redemption instructions within 14 days of purchase. And as a bonus gift, we’ll be sending you a £100 bonusbond gift voucher, which is redeemable at over 25,000 places in the UK. To receive your bonusbond gift voucher (also within 14 days of purchase), please reply to this email with your full postal address no later than Tuesday 29th November, 2011. Full terms and conditions to follow.
So being the efficient person that i am, i replied with my address.
What i ddint know was that Samsung added all the first 100 peoples email addreses into the CC field, meaning anyone of us now has the emails for everyone else.
Not only that… I replied with my email which defaulted to a “REPLY TO ALL” meaning that everyone in the list has my address as well… And by the power of google im sure they can find out any more information that they wanted.
So i’d like to thank samsung for breaching all levels of confidentiality and security that is required these days!!
Not good but I’m sure an honest mistake by Samsung and the others included in the CC field aren’t the type to do anything they shouldn’t I’m sure but even still.   Omar has sent an email to Samsung UK asking what they where playing at so we won’t bother them asking the same question but he has said he’ll keep us up to date. Anyone else get the same email?
Update
Samsung have got in touch with Omar and the others, here’s their response:

Thank you for your email

Having spoken to the relevant department I can confirm only the email addresses were cc’d in to the email and not the actual personal data of the end users.  As far as we are aware you are the only customer who has unfortunately  replied to all with your name and address details.  At present I cannot offer any compensation for this however we will ensure that in future all communication of this nature will be sent with all recipients as BCC so that each individual cannot see the full list of intended recipients.

Once again I thank you for highlighting this to us and you should receive your bonus gift voucher as outlined in the email below.

So, there you go. Good of Samsung to put their hands up and also to get a swift response out to everyone.
